Suva, Fiji, September 30 September, 2021. Information of future travelers to and from New Zealand will be captured in the Traveler Health Declaration System currently being developed by New Zealand Customs Service.
As the country moves to reconnecting with the outside the world, the new framework for travel announced in August will involve gradually shifting border settings from where New Zealand is now with travel based on country-to country arrangements, to a risk-based travel approach based on a number of factors, including vaccine status.
The Traveler Health declaration system will collect information from travelers arriving in New Zealand.
In future, New Zealand will assess the health risk of each traveler depending on their vaccination status, test results and where they have travelled. This information will be used to help facilitate the traveler on arrival to New Zealand, for example whether they need to go into a managed isolation and quarantine facility, eligibility for other isolation options and testing requirements.
The system will be able to validate the vaccination certificates of travelers and show it is authentic and can be trusted.
Because of the complexity of digital and operational systems that the traveler health declaration system needs, it will be developed in phases with security and simplicity for users being key to the solution.
